My Approach

Support groups can offer something therapy alone often cannot — connection with others who truly understand your experience. At Heartwood Counseling and Wellness, our groups are designed to provide a supportive, affirming space for both adults with autism and parents of neurodiverse children (minor and adult children). Whether you are seeking community, practical tools, or simply a place to feel understood, our groups focus on building confidence in navigating everyday challenges.

Do i need a diagnosis?
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to join this group. We recognize that accessing a formal diagnosis can be costly and is often a privilege not everyone can access. Whether you have an informal diagnosis from a provider or a well-researched self-diagnosis, you’re welcome here. This will be explored further during the no-cost intake appointment to ensure the group is the right fit for you.
what are the group rules?
Maintaining a safe and supportive environment is essential for everyone’s growth in this group. All members are expected to adhere to the rules of confidentiality, respect, and active listening. This means keeping what is shared in the group private, being considerate of each other's perspectives, and allowing space for everyone’s voice to be heard.
who can
attend the parent group?
Parents and caregivers are welcome to join if they are raising or caring for a child of any age who may need extra support in areas such as emotions, behavior, attention, learning, social skills, or sensory experiences. A formal diagnosis is not required. This group is open to those parenting children with a wide range of developmental or mental health differences. Parents can live anywhere in the state of Texas.
How Do i join?
A no-cost intake and screening appointment ensures that each individual is a good fit for the group, allowing us to tailor the experience to meet their needs effectively. This initial meeting is crucial for assessing compatibility and ensuring that the group environment will be supportive and beneficial for everyone involved. Go to the "Schedule" page on our website to find a time that works for you.

"Autism challenges us to look beyond the label and see the amazing abilities within. It's not about what someone can't do, but how we can guide and nurture what they do best."
